OpenAI, the nonprofit research company behind some of the world’s most advanced artificial intelligence algorithms, is reducing the pricing of its GPT-3 API by 66%. The move makes OpenAI a more accessible natural language processing platform to developers and researchers.

Why it matters: The GPT-3 API is one of the most powerful tools for natural language generation. By reducing the price, OpenAI is making it easier for developers to build applications that can understand/ respond to human language.

The big picture: Natural language processing is a key technology for building intelligent applications such as chatbots and digital assistants. Large Language Model (LLM) is a deep-learning algorithm trained on enormous amounts of text data, typically with more than 100 billion parameters. LLM is one of the key development projects of tech giants, and GPT-3 is one of the most advanced NLP platforms available today. By making it more affordable, OpenAI is opening up new possibilities for how AI can be used to improve applications.

By the numbers: OpenAI provides several models as options

- Davinci: $0.0600 -> $0.0200 / 1000 tokens

- Curie: $0.0060 -> $0.0020 / 1000 tokens

- Babbage: $0.0012 -> $0.0005 / 1000 tokens
